Cigarettes, Global Warming, Propaganda and Slime

.
As I type, Drudge and NewsMax are reporting that Al Gore, addressing the UN, claimed that cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!" Really!

Somehow I just don't think Gore actually said that, but we'll see. On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me very much to see this kind of thing in Drudge and NewsMax.

Who knows where the links below will lead down the road, so here's where they lead now (my emphasis):

Drudge:
GORE: CIGARETTE SMOKING 'SIGNIFICANT' CONTRIBUTOR TO GLOBAL WARMING
Fri Sep 29 2006 09:04:05 ET

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!"

Gore, who was introduced by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, said the world faces a "full-scale climate emergency that threatens the future of civilization on earth."

Gore showed computer-generated projections of ocean water rushing in to submerge the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, parts of China, India and other nations, should ice shelves in Antarctica or Greenland melt and slip into the sea.

"The planet itself will do nicely, thank you very much what is at risk is human civilization," Gore said. After a series of Q& A with the audience, which had little to do with global warming and more about his political future, Annan bid "adios" to Gore.

Then, Gore had his staff opened a stack of cardboard boxes to begin selling his new book, "An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It," $19.95, to the U.N. diplomats.

Gore Warns U.N. on Climate Change

UNITED NATIONS -- Self-proclaimed "global warming warrior" Al Gore came to U.N. headquarters Thursday to lecture on the "perils" of climate change.

Well, if Rush says so then I suppose it must be true.

Start quote:
... Have you heard about Al Gore? Al Gore had a invitation to speak at the United Nations extended by his old buddy: Kofi Annan. He spoke.

There were a thousand people in the audience. He spoke for three hours. The audience ended up being numb. (Laughing.) Three hours! Do you know what he said? "Former US vice president Al Gore warned hundreds of UN diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming even that cigarette smoking is a significant contributor to global warming." Here is sort of a transcript. "He was invited by an old 'friend,' retiring Secretary General Kofi Annan, and he spent the entire evening slamming anybody and just about everyone on planet earth for the global warming dilemma. He said, 'Greenland runs a real risk of splitting in two, and if that happens substantial parts of Manhattan, Shanghai, and Bombay will disappear.'

"He didn't mention what might happen to Montreal, which is a lot closer to Greenland than Manhattan or Bombay. Maybe he doesn't care about the welfare of Canadians. 'Certain species of frogs and many other amphibians are dressing at a rate one-thousand-times greater than normal. Cigarette smoking is a significant contributor to global warming.' About one-third of the audience left before he finished. There was a Q&A after he finished. Not one person asked him about the claim that cigarette smoking is a significant cause of global warming, significant contributor to global warming," because the audience was numb. They were just literally numb -- and the pictures! I wish I could show you the pictures accompanying this.

As time goes by the "story" is spreading.

Free Market News publishes, "Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!" -DrudgeReport." They conclude with a link, "Read The Full Story", to Drudge.

Well, if you go to Drudge it's still the same "developing" bullshit. Full story. Right.

The Shelbyville Times-Gazette thinks it's unbelievable, unbelievable!, that Gore would be "warning hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff about the perils of climate change, claiming that cigarette smoking is a 'significant contributor to global warming!'"

Maybe it's unbelievable because it's, well, unbelievable.

I'm going to be very interested to see how far this nonsense "develops".

And some more: So green he glows, from WORLDVIEWS - Daily News | Christian Views.

Quote:
Now why is it that when Pat Robertson predicts global disaster that liberals screech, but when Al Gore does it, diplomats applaud? And please don't say that it's because Al bases his prognosticating on "science," while Pat bases his on the Bible.

Actually, that's precisely what I'll say. Robertson is a charlatan while Gore has the science right.

Two days later, Drudge is still "developing..." the story.

"Developed" about as far as was possible...

Here it is, Monday morning, and there's no remaining sign of the breathlessly "developing..." smoking-cigarettes-contributes-to-global-warming story on Drudge.

The "developing..." story sat there on Drudge for over two days in that "developing..." state while it spread out in the right wing, to be absorbed uncritically like gospel from on high.

Drudge can always wipe himself with NewsMax, the apparent source of this nonsense, but the stink lingers.

I've got a pretty good essay about AGW propaganda. Check it out at my blog here:
